Professionals who attend the full-day event (morning and afternoon sessions) are eligible to earn up to 5.0 Continuing Education (CE) credits: Act 48, Social Work or Nursing CEU.
There is no cost for participants to attend. Materials, light refreshments and lunch will be provided.
Who Should Attend
This full-day event is intended for school-based professionals who have an interest in beginning or re-energizing a bullying prevention program in their buildings. Administrators, school board members and school solicitors who would like to gain a better understanding of new bullying legislation in Pennsylvania and how it affects school policy should also attend.
Event Synopsis
Bullying Prevention 101 sessions are designed to provide attendees with a basic understanding of the social epidemic that is bullying and the effect that it has on today’s students and their school environment. The goal is to provide crucial background information to school personnel who are beginning or restructuring bullying prevention efforts within their buildings.
Morning Session
“Bullying Defined, Myths vs. Facts”
Objectives
- Define bullying, as it pertains to today’s students and school environments.
- Provide a basis for understanding the fundamentals of bullying prevention.
- Establish a nexus with topics related to bullying and harassment in schools.
Afternoon Session (divides attendees by occupation)
“Olweus Bullying Prevention Program Overview” for teachers and other school-based personnel
Objectives
- Provide framework for implementing bullying prevention programming in the school environment.
- Identify misdirection in bullying prevention programming.
- Understand the four component parts of the Olweus model.
“Effective Leadership in a School Using the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program” for school administrators and school board members
Objectives
- Understand how using an “evidence-based” bullying prevention program fulfills the requirements of new PA bullying prevention legislation.
- Gain insight into effectively placing new school policy into practice within K-12 PA school buildings.
- Provide leadership strategies for administrators in school buildings implementing the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program.
