History

The Highmark Healthy High 5 Bullying Prevention Institute was founded in 2007. The Institute’s inaugural event, a two-day bullying prevention summit that October, drew more than 700 school-based professionals throughout Pennsylvania to Hershey, Pa., to discuss the bullying epidemic.

Since that time, the Institute has continued to coordinate and host Continuing Education sessions that to date have drawn an additional 1,700 participants to nearly 40 events. These sessions, often filled to capacity, attract education professionals interested in addressing bullying in their schools.

The Institute also supports two programs funded by the Highmark Foundation through its $100 million, five-year initiative, Highmark Healthy High 5: HALT!®: A Bullying Prevention Program and PA CARES (Creating an Atmosphere of Respect and Environment for Success).
